Fans skeptical of Manning’s HGH denial
Denver Broncos quarterback and former Vol Peyton Manning responded to allegations of HGH use in an ESPN interview Sunday morning.
The league outlawed HGH in the collective bargaining agreement in 2011, but the NFL and NFL Players Association could not agree on testing protocols until 2014.
It was a rough weekend for Peyton Manning’s public image as it was reported by Al Jazeera that he acquired performance-enhancing drugs – specifically human growth hormone – in 2011. He reiterated anything Al Jazeera used was “absolutely false or incorrect”. Manning said this week he had “never heard of (Sly) up until this report”.
In the documentary, Sly tells Al Jazeera about the drugs Guyer allegedly would provide his clients. Like growth hormones, all the time, everywhere, Florida.
Another player named in the report, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison, said he has looked into legal action only to be told it wouldn’t be worth the cost. In the meantime of the video of the young man recanting that story, how big of a deal is that?
Sly also said he recanted his story to Al Jazeera when he realized that it had used information he had “made up” to British hurdler Collins. That’s utterly false, as Al Jazeera has won countless awards for their work in journalism, including the prestigious Peabody Award, and it is generally viewed as a reputable source. There needs to be more research into the allegations so they can either clear the players who are innocent, or figure out which of those mentioned have actually been doping.
Sly said he mailed HGH to Manning’s household in 2011, sending it to Manning’s wife, Ashley to avoid a link to the sports star. Any medical treatments that my wife received, that’s her business.
Manning, who is now quarterback for the Denver Broncos, spent 14 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and in 2006 led the franchise to its first Super Bowl win in three decades. “It never happened. Never”, Manning said in a statement released by the Broncos.
“I don’t know the details about it, but off-the-bat I don’t believe it. I feel like he put a lot of hours in to get where he is and he built up the franchise, so I don’t believe it personally”, said Kimberly Fox.
“During the course of our relationship, Peyton has represented himself, the game of football and Papa John’s with the utmost honor and integrity”, Papa John’s said in a statement, calling Manning “a trusted friend”.
