“Fantastic Beasts” Wows The Box-Office
The news will please Warner Bros. bosses, after the studio reportedly spent almost £145m ($180m) to produce the film.
The long anticipated film Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them has finally hit the theaters, with fans and critics worldwide talking about the movie.
For comparison, the newest Harry Potter movie, 2011’s Deathly Hallows Part 2, made $169.1 million in the USA during its opening weekend.
Eddie Redmayne plays the foppish British wizard, Newt Scamander, who steps off the boat in NYC on a mysterious mission with a suitcase of fantastic beasts. He noted that the film performed especially well in small to medium-sized towns across North America, and not just in the major markets.
That should be just the tip of the wand for the studio because the “Potter” brand holds enormous power at the box office around the world.

But DeFore said casual audiences “may be less convinced that this spin-off demands the five feature-length installments Warner and Rowling have planned”. The film cost a reported $40 million to produce.
“It’s a tale of the battling wizards”, says comScore senior media analyst Paul Dergarabedian, referring to Beasts star Eddie Redmayne and odd main man Benedict Cumberbatch.
Ang Lee’s Billy Lynn made just $930,000 (£753,000) in its first week on national release.
The Woody Harrelson and Hailee Steinfeld-starring comedy flick lands in the seventh place with an estimated $4.9 million, while Miles Teller’s sports drama debuts in the eighth place with approximately $2.4 million. It seems audiences can’t get enough of the Harry Potter magic. Fantastic Beasts was set to have a solid opening frame, but wasn’t going to approach $100 million or the $85 million that Doctor Strange opened to a few weekends ago.
