Fast & Furious 8 Gets Helen Mirren Behind the Wheel
Now it appears her request has been granted as she confirmed to ELLE that she will in fact have a part in the 2017 sequel, Fast 8.
Fast & Furious 8 already has a dynamite cast, including Charlize Theron, who tore up the screen in Mad Max: Fury Road, and Kristofer Hivju, who plays the Brienne-loving Tormund in Game of Thrones.
Look, when Oscar-winning actress and confirmed badass Helen Mirren makes it known she wants to join your long-running film franchise, you don’t hesitate. Now that Mirren’s made it clear she’s ready to give it some gas, it’d be a missed opportunity to not toss her the keys to a sweet ride.
Mirren said she agreed to be in the movie if she’s actually allowed to drive in it. She told Elle she took the role in the latest movie for “the fun of it” and added, “I’ve always rather loved driving”.
Mirren had revealed her surprising hope to be in a Fast and Furious movie past year in an interview with Yahoo, saying, “My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie”.
“Film is a wonderful thing and it can be so many different things”.
My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie. She later said her “claim to fame” is she does all her own driving and mentioned her super fast lap on the TV show Top Gear. I don’t want to turn my back on any of the different ways movies can be. “I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me”. I have to say Vin Diesel is brilliant.
