Fatal shooting in Cook County, 1 in custody
The man shot and killed outside a popular North Shore resort just as a holiday party was breaking up was identified Thursday as a 35-year-old man from Bloomington.
Charges are pending against the suspect, a 61-year-old resort employee from the town of Finland, who was arrested in a guest room. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
“This investigation is in its early stages and more specific details about the encounter is part of the ongoing investigation”, Eliasen said in a statement.
Some guests staying at the resort said they didn’t know about the shooting until they woke up Wednesday morning.
Rysdahl said Roberts’ brother also works for the gambling company and was present during the incident.
According to the preliminary report from the Sheriff’s Office, several individuals stepped outside of an employee Christmas party being held at the resort.
Meanwhile, the Cook County Sheriff’s Office says there is no threat to public safety. An autopsy is being conducted by the St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s office. No one else was injured in the incident.
During the arrest, Bigby became uncooperative and suffered minor injuries, sheriff’s officials said. He was treated at a local hospital and released to authorities.
He was later charged with second-degree murder and is awaiting his first court appearance.
The sheriff’s office said it is continuing to investigate with assistance from the BCA. Tofte is about 80 miles northeast of Duluth.
