Father Fired Fatal Shots in Greenwood Family’s Deaths
Brian Short, his wife, and three children were found dead inside their multi-million dollar home in Lake Minnetonka, Minnesota on Thursday, September 10. Lt. Steve Neururer (NOO’-er) of the South Lake Minnetonka Police Department said he hadn’t seen the reports and couldn’t confirm or deny anything.
“Obviously it’s an extremely tragic event and it’s going to take some time to sort through”, he said.
Greenwood, with a population of 700, is just east of Excelsior on the southern shore of Lake Minnetonka.
Brian Short, a nurse, founded the website AllNurses.com, which provides information and resources for and about the nursing profession.
Siitari said Thursday the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office was processing a “complex crime scene”.
Police found Karen Short, 48, and the three children – Cole, 17, Madison, 15, and Brooklyn, 14 – dead in their bedrooms.
The newspaper notes that Allnurses was facing a lawsuit from a New Jersey-based competitor, but said it is unclear “whether it posed much of a legal or financial threat to his business”. The popular networking site for nurses attracted the attention of advertisers.
Home the night before the bodies were discovered, he said, he didn’t hear anything amiss from the Short house. And he said he had turned down 50 buyout offers in the past 10 years.
Scanner conversations between police and dispatchers indicated that all the victims appeared to have died of severe injuries. He said the family was always friendly and said he used to see the children walking along their quiet street with friends.
Another neighbor who asked not to be named described the Shorts as a “normal”, “busy” family. “Their lives revolved around their kids”. Police and medical authorities have stopped short of saying that Short was responsible for the murder of his family.
Brian Short’s Facebook page shows a family man who was interested in nursing and wildlife.
He told the Star Tribune in 2014 that he ran the operation out of his house until a year earlier.
