Father of Orlando shooter sighted at Hillary Clinton event
The media seemed eager to move on from another hiccup for the Hillary Clinton campaign this week, dutifully repeating her line that she “disavows” the support of Seddique Mateen, the father of an Islamic terrorist.
“And I know how many people, family members, loved ones and friends are still grieving”, she told the crowd.
During a rally held by Hillary Clinton in Kissimmee, Florida, a local news outlet recognized the face of a man with a red hat sitting behind Clinton.
Omar Mateen fatally shot 49 people and injured another 53 at Pulse nightclub on June 12. He was killed by law enforcement officers following a three-hour standoff.
“We’ve been cooperating with the federal government, and that’s about it”, he said.
Mateen did not initially want to answer any questions; however, NewsChannel5 ran into Mateen later on in the night at a rest stop outside of West Palm Beach.
Disgraced former Florida Rep. Mark Foley – who resigned from Congress in 2006 over allegations he sent sexually explicit messages to underage boys working as pages at the Capitol – was seated just over Trump’s right shoulder at the GOP nominee’s event in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
When the Clinton campaign rally was over, Mateen was asked, “What were you thinking about when she was talking about the Orlando incident?” “I was invited by the Democratic party”, he explained. “Nothing particular about it”, he said.
Mateen also told WPTV that no one should be surprised to see him at the event so close to the site of the shooting because “I love the United States, and I’ve been living here a long time”.
An official from the Clinton campaign said they were not aware that Mateen was at the event – which was open to the public – until after it occurred.
Mateen expressed his wish that his son had “joined the Army and fought IS. That would be much better”, he said.
