Favre, Stabler, Harrison, Greene, Pace, Dungy voted to Hall
Brett Favre played in 302 games over an illustrious 20-year career, so it’d be understandable if the Green Bay Packers legend couldn’t remember his most fierce adversary. Granted, he holds records for most career pass completions and pass attempts.
Dungy is a two-time Super Bowl champion, winning a ring with the Steelers in 1979 as a player and leading the Colts to the title in 2007.
Also selected for the honor were Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Tony Dungy, linebacker Kevin Greene, wide receiver Marvin Harrison, and tackle Orlando Pace.
It was weird to see him in a Minnesota Vikings jersey at the end of his career but he had 44 touchdowns those two seasons.
Young, a three-time Super Bowl victor, with one coming as a starter, ranks 30th with 33,124 career passing yards and 29th with 232 passing touchdowns. When he started out his coaching career, Dungy said, there were only a half-dozen or so other black assistants.
“The Green Bay Packers organization and all our fans congratulate Brett on his election into the Pro Football Hall of Fame”, said Packers President/CEO Mark Murphy. Indianapolis reached the playoffs during every season he was its coach, from 2002-08.
“It probably won’t be much longer than that”, Dougherty joked before leaving for Santa Clara, California, and Friday’s Hall of Fame committee gathering. MS leads the nation in Pro Football Hall of Famers per capita.
From the senior committee, two players made the final cut. Each brother wore one of Grandpa’s bling-filled rings: Justin’s was from the 1977 Super Bowl with the Oakland Raiders; Jack’s was from a college national championship with Alabama. Now in its third year of traveling, Gridiron Glory: The Best of the Pro Football Hall of Fame is a large-scale traveling exhibition that presents a panoramic view of pro football’s story and includes hundreds of artifacts from the Hall’s expansive collection.
Davis, a Lincoln High alumnus, was a three-time Pro Bowl selection and MVP of Super Bowl XXXII, when he rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns in the Denver Broncos’ 31-24 victory over the Green Bay Packers at Qualcomm Stadium. Construction on HOF Village, a $476 million development project, is under way in Canton to transform the Hall of Fame’s campus.
