Damien Chazelle and Barry Jenkins – the directors whose films were caught up in the Best Picture snafu at this year’s Oscars ceremony – have joined forces for a touching “morning after” interview detailing their experience of the freakish turn of events. It was thought that La La Land won to walk away with seven wins from its record-tying 14 nominations and producers even gave acceptance speeches before the mistake was discovered.
“Warren Beatty (C) shows the card reading best picture’Moonlight” after mistakingly reading “La La Land”. Ali was among a series of black writers and actors who won awards, including Viola Davis, who won best supporting actress for her role in “Fences“.
Beatty explained his mistake, saying his envelope had the card for the best actress victor – Emma Stone – in it.
“This is not a joke”.
A win tonight for Jenkins follows up his Indie Spirit Award win for Moonlight yesterday. He held up the card that proved it: “Moonlight”.

The producers and cast of “Moonlight” were invited to the stage as the stunned crowd applauded and host Jimmy Kimmel joked about the blunder. “What did you do?”
“Man, I wish I had something better and more meaningful to say”.
That was in reference to the mistake Harvey made in 2015 at the Miss Universe pageant.
With the wrong film being mistakenly named best picture at the Oscars – La La Land instead of Moonlight – lots of people are asking how this could have happened.
A day after the incident, the Academy and apologized to all affected, including presenters Beatty and Dunaway, and said it will “determine what actions are appropriate going forward”.
As far as Barry Jenkins, Moonlight’s director, it’s safe to say it was one of the craziest moments of his life. “La La Land” director Damien Chazelle and Jenkins hugged amid the chaos.
Jenkins’ actual speech saw him say: “Very clearly, even in my dreams this can not be true”.
What. just. happened at the Oscars? “I’m still basically processing it because it was in front of so many people”.
