FBI Finds ‘Items’ in Lake near San Bernardino Attack Site
Tens of millions of people are cleared each year to come to this country to work, visit or live. Bowdich told reporters the investigation into the December 2 mass shooting would go on for some time and could include other areas and neighborhoods.
The San Bernardino lake, nestled in a public park, about 2.5 miles (4 km) north of the site of the shooting, is believed to be littered with junk and debris. Lawmakers from both parties have endorsed making it harder for people to enter the United States if they have recently been in Iraq or Syria. Records show her visa was approved the day after the interview and she traveled to the U.S.in July 2014.
The State and Homeland Security departments have said all procedures were carefully followed during the process in the granting of Malik’s K-1 visa. “Clearly, the social media has placed a whole new burden and a whole new set of questions, but not impossible ones to resolve, and I think we need to look at this very, very carefully – which is what we’re doing – before we jump to any wholesale prohibition without understanding what the implications may be”.
In an era when technology has given intelligence agencies seemingly limitless ability to collect information on people, it may seem surprising that a Facebook or Twitter post could go unnoticed in a background screening. “The threat from terrorism is real, but we will overcome it”.

“All applicable security checks were done for that individual, Ms. Malik”, said Edward Ramotowski, the department’s deputy assistant for visa services told another Senate panel. First, her name was assessed by Homeland Security against law enforcement and national security databases. The Department of State then reviewed her fingerprints against other databases and she was thoroughly reviewed once more after she applied for a green card.
In order for Malik to gain permanent residency in the United States, she faced three extensive national security and criminal background screenings – two of which were conducted in-person. “I am the one who spent most of the time with my sister”, she said. Specifically, he was asked whether social media activity should be considered in the vetting process. But, as The Times notes, immigration officials rarely check applicants’ social media posts for red flags. Social media contain is seldom contained.
After the terrorist attacks in Paris last month, a furor arose over whether the United States should accept Syrian refugees.
They are seeking the electronic trail of the killers and trying to find out whom they interacted with, how they hatched and carried out the plot, and why.
