FCA to invest $1B at Jeep plants
Fiat Chrysler said Thursday it will invest $1.05 billion in assembly plants in OH and IL to bolster Jeep output. Earlier this year, CEO Sergio Marchionne said FCA is looking to outsource production of the Dart and the low-selling Chrysler 200 to a partner.
Auto workers and city leaders in Toledo had been on edge after Fiat revealed it was considering moving the Wrangler assembly line. That factory will focus on producing the Jeep Cherokee, which will be moving to IL in 2017.
While Fiat Chrysler’s IL plant is seeing a huge investment, the Italian-American carmaker’s investment in the Toledo Assembly Complex in OH is even bigger.

This amount will be invested in the Belvidere Assembly Plant in IL for the manufacture of the Jeep Cherokee. The company also intends to stop producing the Dodge Dart and the Jeep Compass/Jeep Patriot from Sep and Dec 2016, respectively. The plan will create approximately 700 new jobs.
In all, the changes will add 700 jobs along with a $700 million investment in Toledo. The Jeep Compass/Patriot will end in December.
The automaker said the plans are subject to formal approval of state and local incentives. These will come on top of the 23,500 jobs FCA created since June 2009, while its total investments will add up to $6.8 billion.
