Federal Bureau of Investigation aware of ISIS terror threat on WWE event planned for Sunday
A professional wrestling event at Atlanta’s Philips Arena is one of several possible targets for Sunday attacks by Islamic State terrorists, an online post purportedly tied to the cyberactivist group Anonymous claimed Saturday.
“WWE Survivor Series is now scheduled as planned while we investigate the matter with federal, state and local authorities”, WWE said in a statement.
Atlanta resident Hallie Mather said: “I do take these things seriously and I think that if the Federal Bureau of Investigation thinks that it’s something that we should be concerned about that it’s definitely something that we should be concerned about”.
The legitimacy of these claims are still uknown.
There will be a Survivor Series pre-show at 7 p.m. ET with a preview of the main card and a few free matches that you can watch on the WWE Network and YouTube.
It might be Survivor Series in name, but the focus on this years pay-per-view event will be far away from the traditional 5-on-5 elimination match.
In a statement Saturday, the WWE said it and the Atlanta venue hosting the event have increased security measures to ensure fans’ safety. Speaking to the worldwide Business Times, the hactivist group said that they had passed along all information to the government. Doors will open at 6 p.m.to help fans avoid any delays in entering the arena due to the precautionary security procedures put in place.
