Federal Bureau of Investigation takes custody of teacher accused of kidnapping Tennessee girl
Now that Cummins is in federal custody, authorities in Siskiyou County don’t expect him to face any local charges. He was taken aback at how small and childlike she was, a side of her that the public didn’t see while she was under Cummins’ control.
“At first I thought they were on hard times and lost everything, then figured it out”, he told Inside Edition.

The TBI earlier had said the two were found in a commune, but later backed off that description. Snipers surrounded the cabin as Cummins exited the cabin and was taken into custody.
A former schoolteacher, who is accused of kidnapping a 15-year-old Tennessee teenager and taking her on a month-long odyssey that ended with his arrest in California, will appear in federal court in Sacramento on Monday, authorities said Friday.
After Elizabeth was found, she was described by authorities to be “healthy and unharmed”, but they added that the main concern is the state of her emotional and mental well-being. Siskiyou County sheriff’s Sgt. Mike Gilley said. “Her mood was very alternating”, he said.
Authorities declined to answer a question on whether the girl went willingly, saying it didn’t matter.
Fact: Law enforcement officials have never said or alluded to the fact that the 15-year-old may be pregnant. He said her family will be patient with her and get her the help she needs.
Cummins is in custody facing federal charges for transporting a minor over state lines for the goal of sex.
The girl’s father has told news media he believes his daughter was brainwashed.
The school’s investigative files provided to The Associated Press by the attorney show that both Cummins and the girl denied kissing.
“This is a huge success for the Amber Alert program here in the state of Tennessee”, said TBI spokesperson Josh DeVine on the TODAY Show Friday morning.

The day the pair went missing, Cummins borrowed his wife Jill’s 2015 Nissan Rogue and lied that he had a job interview at the Williamson County Medical Center.
Elizabeth Thomas was found safe in a remote cabin in Cecilville, northwest of Redding.
Surveillance video from Walmart stores in Oklahoma City and Guymon captured video of the student and teacher.
