Federation Internationale de Football Association Considering Lifetime Ban on UEFA Chief
The news were revealed on Tuesday.
Platini’s lawyer Thomas Clay described the investigatory chamber’s decision, led by Trinidadian Vanessa Allard, as absurd, delusional and discrediting the world football governing body, FIFA.
Both Platini and Blatter are serving a 90-day suspension.
There was no written contract for the payment and the work was apparently done by Platini when he was working as a “special advisor” to Blatter between 1998 and 2002.
Judge Joachim Eckert is expected to give his verdicts in the cases of the current Federation Internationale de Football Association President and UEFA President next month.
The investigators have called for a lifetime ban against Platini, but the requested punishment against Blatter is not yet known.
On the proposed sanction, he added: “The overreaching of the request really convinces us of this commission’s total lack of credibility”.
“They know what is in the report and they are free to comment on it”.
The FIFA presidential election is held every years and the 209 member federations each hold one vote.
According to the Guardian, these sanctions are “based on the allegation that Platini agreed to undertake a specific action in return for the £1.35m he received shortly before Blatter was re-elected for a fourth term”. The five other candidates meanwhile are already lobbying for the presidency: Asian football chief Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa former FIFA vice president Prince Ali bin Al Hussein of Jordan former FIFA official Jerome Champagne of France South African businessman and former minister Tokyo Sexwale and UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino.
Platini was questioned two months ago by investigators and was said to be the favorite in the presidential race, which recently announced some of the names involved.
Platini was one of the most gifted players of his generation and inspired a French team which played with an exuberant Gallic flourish that delighted global audiences during the early to mid 1980s.
It is understood Blatter is also facing corruption charges, which under Court of Arbitration for Sport guidelines carry a lifetime ban if proved.
