Federation Internationale de Football Association U-17 World Cup: Croatia defeat Golden Eaglets
After the preliminary round at the on-going Federation Internationale de Football Association U17 World Cup in Chile, Australia, which emerged as one of the third-placed finishers will now face the Emmanuel Amunike-tutored Golden Eaglets of Nigeria.
Brekalo equalised for Croatia in the 50th minute before Majic neted the winners four minutes later.
Emmanuel Amuneke’s boys came close to levelling the scores, but could not find another goal.
Meanwhile, the Golden Eaglets have since arrived Vina del Match with preparations already on for the Round of 16 matches on Wednesday, starting with a training session on Sunday.
“This is the World Cup and we can’t play as bunch of friends and expect to win”, rapped the former Barcelona winger. “We won the first two games but unfortunately lost Croatia but of course the important thing is that we’ve achieved our objective and what we have to do now is thank God, relax and return to work as the group is totally different from the knockout stage”.
He continued: “Don’t forget, it was Croatia that denied us the opportunity of winning the Suwon U-17 Tournament in Korea last month; so it is an opportunity for us to show them we are better than them but unlucky then”.
Nigeria finished top of Group A with six points, while Australia finished third in Group C, africanFootball.com reports.
And Amuneke said his team lost to a better side.
