Federer beats Murray in 3 sets to reach 10th Wimbledon final
I know I’m not the only one who has this kind of intention and goal. We’ve been both been there before.
“I had to try to focus and keep holding my serve one more game”.
The 28-year-old will go for his third All England Club title, and his ninth at the majors, when he faces Federer. There’s not enough praises for what he does.
“When people can talk about someone like (soccer superstar Lionel) Messi, people love the way he plays the game”.
Hingis won the women’s doubles title at the All England Club with Jana Novotna 17 years ago, but she has never won the mixed doubles at Wimbledon. “It’s his court”.
On the receiving end, Federer picked his moments, and they happened to come at the end of each set. He said he woke up with a stiff shoulder but said the ailment is not serious.
“He clearly deserved to win the match”, Murray said.
World No. 1 Novak Djokovic is through to the final of Wimbledon after his victory over Frenchman Richard Gasquet on Friday.
Djokovic now has the chance to level his coach, Boris Becker, with three Wimbledon titles, an achievement that has only been achieved by five players in the Open era. In 2012, he tied Pete Sampras and 1880s player William Renshaw with seven.
After breaking the second-time semi-finalist (first in 2007) in the third game, Djokovic maintained dominance and closed out victory on his second asking. “It’s tough to know just now”. I’ll be OK for the next match.
World No 1, Novak Djokovic has advanced to the final of the 2015 Wimbledon after defeating Frenchman Richard Gasquet 7-6, 6-4, 6-4. I served well. Best I probably served in the tournament myself.
Federer’s serving in particular was supreme, the seven-times champion sending down 20 aces – more than double what he averaged in his first five rounds – and offering up just one break point, in the very first game of the match.
Federer then moved onto the brink of a break with sweeping backhand, with Murray only able to find the net with a feeble return in response.
“I kept the pressure up”, Federer said. I think I won it on my serve.
“I’m very happy to be in the semis again”.
During the straight sets win, the Swiss player fired 20 aces, 35 winners and claimed 84% of first serves.
“And also when you don’t have any break points or opportunities, it’s tough to get the crowd involved”.
Murray ultimately held after almost 15 minutes of electrifying, nerve-racking tennis, and it seemed he had turned a corner.
Instead, he held serve to love, and launched new wave of attacks, earning a sixth set point which he converted with a guided volley after running Murray ragged.
Andy Murray resisted, but Roger Federer persisted.
Djokovic produced big serves at crucial times and pulled away against Gasquet on Centre Court.
There were a few more unforced errors than normal off the Djokovic racket in a tight first set but once he cruised through the tiebreak he bolted the door on the 21st seed whose wait for a first grand slam final continues.
