Federer tops Jaziri after trouble in second set
In his 5th match against the players from the Top 5, rising star Alexander Zverev has scored his first win, defeating Roger Federer 7-6 5-7 6-3 in Halle semi-final, for his second ATP final in the last 5 weeks (lost to Thiem in Nice).
He rediscovered his rhythm, recovered the deficit and then broke the Tunisian in the 11th game before serving out the match.
This match marks the occasion of Federer’s fourteenth consecutive quarter-final appearance in Halle; a tournament which he has won eight times, including in each of the past three seasons.
Federer leads Goffin 4-0 in their career head-to-heads, including a 6-2, 6-1, 6-4 win in this year s Australian Open fourth round.
Thiem beat Kohlschreiber in the Stuttgart final on Monday.
The German, meanwhile, edged past the ace-king Ivo Karlovic 6-7(7), 6-4, 7-5 for his 385th Tour-level win that tied him with compatriot and 1991 Wimbledon victor Michael Stich.

Former world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki was beaten, 6-4, 6-7(5-7), 6-2, by Yanina Wickmayer, ranked 49th but a former finalist. “He has a big serve, especially the first one”, Federer said.
Zverev will next meet Cypriot veteran Marco Baghdatis who put out Dustin Brown, also of Germany, 7-5, 7-6 (10/8).
