Feds to investigate practices of Chicago police

Like the Laquan McDonald police shooting video, the dashcam from the Johnson foot chase does not contain audio.
The video shows Johnson running from police across a street with several officers in pursuit, and then one officer fires. Johnson is hit twice out of camera range. Some of those calls were played at the news conference. While officers were interviewing one of the men in that vehicle, Johnson tried to run. He and Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez have had to dismiss calls for their resignations amid lingering discontent on how the city handled the McDonald case. “The report, issued in March, found that officers routinely discriminated against blacks by using excessive force, issuing petty citations and making baseless traffic stops”.
Alvarez showed police auto dashboard video to reporters on Monday, which showed an officer firing at Johnson.
She says Chicago is at a crossroads and change is in the air and on the horizon.
“No criminal charges should be filed because the crime can not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt”, said Alvarez, whose office was asked to review the case.
“We’re in different times right now when we’re talking about transparency and what the public wants to see”, Alvarez said after showing the video.
A victory for labor: “United Auto Workers win union vote 108-44 for skilled workers at Volkswagen’s lone US plant in Tennessee after the polls closed”. They have filed a lawsuit against the city, claiming that Johnson was not armed when killed. Oppenheimer said Johnson was afraid and “running at full speed” with nothing in his hands. It was after midnight, he noted, dismissing the notion that anyone would be in the park. Her announcement was accompanied by the public release of dash-cam footage showing the fatal shooting of Johnson. “In these times, we need DOJ to use every tool at their disposal to bring justice to Johnson’s family and the community”, said Rea Carey, National LGBTQ Task Force Action Fund Executive Director. Oppenheimer also suggested that police could have planted the gun found next to Johnson’s body. Coleman clashed violently with police officers at the hospital where he was taken for treatment, trying to seize an officer’s Taser, it said.
I don’t believe any police force in America is as corrupt and consistently brutal as the Chicago Police Department.
“A life was lost here, and that is a tragedy that can’t be taken lightly no matter the circumstances”.
Attorney General Loretta Lynch, right, and U.S. Attorney in Chicago Zachary Fardon, left, speaks during a conference at the Justice Department in Washington, Monday, Dec. 7, 2015, about an investigation into the patterns and pra… They will also look into whether there are systematic violations of the Constitution or federal law by the CPD, as well as racial, ethnic and other disparities in use of force, and its systems of accountability.
Alvarez announced Hernandez will not face criminal charges in Johnson’s death almost two weeks after she charged Van Dyke with first-degree murder in the McDonald case.
McDonald is seen in the video walking in the middle of a road toward patrol cars.
The demonstration was staged outside the mayor’s office on the fifth floor of City Hall just before the mayor held a news conference Monday afternoon.
