Fellaini set for more advanced role with Man Utd
Van Gaal said that Fellaini would be more a number nine or 10 than at six or eight this season, the BBC reported.
“It’s not important where I play, the most important thing is to win the game“.
Fellaini, who was suspended for the first three Premier League games of the seaosn, scored on his return to the team in the first leg against Brugge.
Despite investing heavily in their squad during the summer, bringing in the likes of Memphis Depay, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Matteo Darmian and Morgan Schneiderlin, United have not brought in a new centre-forward. I have to help the team.
“I don’t think my players will take it easy”.
“They are all playing the squad and sometimes they shall play more matches”.
“Last season I did quite well and I want to continue”.
“I know the philosophy of the manager and am looking forward to doing well and scoring some goals”.
Marouane Fellaini looks likely to start after scoring the vital third goal in stoppage time last week.
Despite being linked with a number of targets, Van Gaal insists he does not need to sign a striker before the transfer window shuts on Tuesday. “Our defensive organisation has pleased me most”, the Dutchman said.
“I have chosen Chicharito (Hernandez), because he is another type from Rooney, and we have also Fellaini, who is another type, then I have Wilson and Januzaj, so I don’t think we need a striker”. So this is an important game because it was our aim previous year to particulate in the Champions League and still we are not participating, it’s the preliminary rounds, so it’s very important.
“But we have to improve when we have the ball“.
“We have been a little bit unlucky. Liverpool and Arsenal was 0-0 on Monday but you can’t say they didn’t create anything”.
United hold a 3-1 aggregate lead heading into their second leg clash with Brugge on Wednesday but van Gaal is still wary of the threat posed by the Belgians.
Brugge, meanwhile, have already lost two of their opening five league matches this term, including the 2-0 defeat to Zulte-Waregem at the weekend, as the side struggle to replicate the form that saw them finish as runners-up in the Pro League last season.
