Ferguson ‘worried’ about Liverpool’s Klopp appointment
Invited to emulate Jose Mourinho’s claim on arrival at Chelsea to be “the special one“, however, he insisted Liverpool Football Club was special and he was “normal one“.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager replaces Brendan Rodgers at Anfield, and admitted he felt there was a negative atmosphere around the club that he is looking to change. But they haven’t lifted English football’s top prize for 25 years, a run dating back to 1990.
“I’m not here to promise you will see against Tottenham the absolute new LFC – but a few of the new LFC would be cool”.
I had a normal holiday. I come from the Black Forest. It’s hard for me to understand. “I’m the normal one”.
Klopp has been out of work since May, when he ended a seven-year spell at Borussia Dortmund to take a sabbatical. For both parties it was best to leave and now I am here. I love all the stories.
The 48-year-old, speaking at his maiden press conference at Anfield, also stressed the club’s history should not weight heavy on them as they begin a new chapter. “Rainy day, heavy pitch, everybody dirty in the face and goes home and can’t play football for the next four weeks”. “That is important at Anfield”.
“But it’s not so important what people think when you come in”.
But there was a promise of future success delivered in “a special Liverpool way”.
“I want to build a great relationship with these supporters and give them memories to cherish”. If we sit here in four years I think we’ll have won one title – I’m pretty sure.
“This is one of the biggest problems you have here, maybe on the island (the UK)”, he added.
Every Liverpool player will be out to prove themselves now to a boss who seems to be an exceptional motivator – one who makes you believe in yourself. He said: “It is a really insane discussion”. First I need to talk to the players to find a common way. But we don’t have a pre-season, we’re in the middle of the season almost. We only want to discuss good players, at the highest level. “I’m not a genius”. For him, it is more than just a football club. “I hope we can feed off each other’s energy and that we take this journey together”. He is expected to bring with him Zeljko Buvac and Peter Krawietz, who were his former assistants at the Bundesliga club.
