Fertility Clinic Posts Photo Of A Baby Surrounded By Syringes, Draws Support
A mother has posted a picture of a baby girl lying asleep in the middle of hundred of syringes to illustrate the physical and emotional turmoil experienced by people who go through IVF.
One mum uploaded a photo of her twins, writing: “A decade of fertility treatments: five doctors, five clinics, 16 failed IVFs, two failed adoptions”.
Denise Welch is hoping that by undergoing IVF treatment she will be able to have a baby with her new partner – at the age of 54.
Around her, carefully arranged in the shape of a heart, are hundreds of syringes and empty vials that Angela used over the course of a year and a half with IVF – and according to her specialist, Dr. Molina Dayal, there were plenty of supplies she used that weren’t pictured. Thank you to Sher Fertility St. Louis and Dr. Dayal patient Angela, who shows the true definition of love that went into making this gorgeous new baby girl.
Director of communications for Sher Fertility Institute, Lisa Stark, told USA Today that it was a provocative image that puts in perspective what goes behind IVF treatments. “We are overwhelemed by the response pouring in from women who can relate to the photo”.
She says the feedback has been mostly positive. “Some of the comments took my breath away they were so powerful”.
People wrote about their experiences going through IVF and taking fertility shots in the photo’s caption.
Sarah Husson writes: “Didn’t even tell my husband what this was, I just handed him my phone”. It brings tears to my eyes.
Lindsay Wester recalls, “Wow!!! Worth every single shot, pill, sonogram, blood draw…you name it. Would do it over again in a heartbeat for my precious son”, a mother commented. “This was her last June on her first birthday”.
Another user said the image accurately depicted the pain and ultimate reward of IVF. “He’s worth all the drugs, needles, bloating, bleeding, bruising and every other fun side effect”.
