Fiat Chrysler recalls Ram trucks, Jeep Cherokee SUVs in US
Chrysler is voluntarily recalling an estimated 75,364 U.S.-market SUVs to inspect and replace, as required, their air-conditioning lines, as required. Almost 94,000 2015 Jeep Cherokees are being recalled because the air conditioning lines are too close to the exhaust manifold and could catch fire. The company has already received two complaints through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration involving smoke and fire related to the lines.
The recall affects sedans and coupes from 1997 to 2004 model years, GM said, adding that it was aware of post-repair fires in a few vehicles but no crashes or fatalities.
Fiat Chrysler automobiles is recalling a few Jeep Cherokee SUV’s and Ram pickup trucks for two different safety issues. They include an estimated 7,571 in Canada; 4,018 in Mexico; and 6,942 outside the outside the NAFTA region. Affected customers will be advised when they may schedule service, which FCA USA will provide free of charge.
The company also announced that it’s recalling more than 86,000 Ram pickups mainly in North America because the rear axle shafts could break and cause a wheel to separate.
The company said it is also recalling about 16,647 Ram trucks in Canada, 1,924 in Mexico and 1,715 outside the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) region.
A preliminary inquiry by NHTSA found that the reporting failures resulted from numerous problems with the company’s systems for gathering and reporting data, Rosekind said.
A few warning signs of the flaw would be air-conditioning loss or a dashboard warning light illuminating.
