Fiat confirm return of Tipo name | New Release
Fiat is reviving the Tipo name for its new family hatchback which will replace the ageing Bravo next year. A bunch of official videos and drive reviews of the global sedan have emerged online.
The Fiat Tipo has been designed in Italy by the FCA Style Centre, developed in Turkey with Tofaş R&D and will be built in the Tofaş plant in Bursa.
A production-spec version of Fiat Egea was showcased in the Istanbul motor show and now it seems, the vehicle has been confirmed for Asian market and will be sold under the nameplate “Tipo”.
Fiat adds that inside the vehicle is both “styled and built to the highest standards” and available with the brand’s latest touchscreen Uconnect infotainment system with hands-free Bluetooth calling and audio streaming; a rear parking camera and TomTom satellite navigation.
The new saloon measures 4.5m in length, 1.78m in width and 1.48m in height, with a wheelbase of 2.64m and boot capacity of 510 litres, meaning it has plenty of space for five passengers and their luggage easily. Despite the increase in dimensions, the sedan is lighter than the aging Linea.
The Fiat Tipo will have a choice of four engines – all said to be “reliable, muscular and efficient” – including two MultiJet II turbo-diesels and two petrol units ranging from 90 to 120hp. Further hatchback and wagon versions are now expected to make their first public appearance in Geneva next year in spring.
