Fiat Resurrects Tipo Name For Its New Compact Sedan
Fiat has announced that its new C-segment model, which replaces the Bravo, will revive the Tipo name. “It will be a test for the market because the [affordable compact] segment in Europe basically does not exist”, says Alfredo Altavilla, Fiat Chrysler’s chief operating officer for Europe, adding the Tipo would face no direct competition. A name steeped in history for the new three-box sedan which was revealed in May at the Istanbul Motor Show as the first chapter of the “Fiat Ægea” Project. Sales of the Fiat Tipo will begin in Italy from December 2015.
The Fiat TIPO is an all-new, four-door vehicle created from the beginning as a three-box sedan embodying the “Born to be Sedan” concept and is enhanced by the balanced shapes characteristic of Italian design to guarantee personality and style without forgoing functionality.
Buyers in various markets will be able to choose from a wide range of gasoline and diesel powerplants, with power output ranging from 95-120 horsepower and a choice between manual and automatic transmissions.
“Despite “budget” pretensions – a few reports suggest the Tip could start from as little as £10k – it will come with Fiat’s Uconnect system complete with 5″ colour screen, Bluetooth, USB and the option of TomTom Sat Nav and rear view camera.
Designed in Italy and developed in Turkey, the Tipo will be built in the latter country where it will retain the Ægea nameplate.
