Fight Breaks Out During Texas-Baylor Game After Late Hit, Sidelines Clear
Art Briles got rotting, moldy, crushed lemons and nearly found a way to whip up a batch of semi-palatable lemonade.
The Longhorns, though, went three-and-out and punted it away with 1:34 left and the Bears without any timeouts left.
For some inexplicable reason, Texas spent a great deal of time in an odd front with a deep safety against the run-heavy Baylor offense and, shocker, it didn’t work so well.
“[I’m] not pleased with the year we had, you look at it, we go beat Oklahoma and then you bounce back and go on the road and go beat Baylor”.
The Baylor offense seemed dedicated to junior wide receiver Corey Coleman to start the game, as they gave him the ball on three straight plays.
There was a melee in the first quarter after Duke Thomas’ interception.
But the real story to come from all this is this Texas player, who is doing… something. Stop back to see if the Longhorns hang on. “So when they come back, hopefully they’ll build on it and have a better season”. But the Texas defense snuffed it out when Roberts broke up the deep pass.
Texas started the season with a 38-3 loss at Notre Dame and finished non-conference play with a 45-44 home loss to California, missing an extra point after a big comeback. Those first downs helped control the clock and flow of the game in Texas’ favor.
In the end, between the injury issues and the disappointment of recent losses, Baylor didn’t play with the necessary efficiency to get back on track. It’s the first time since 2009 that Texas has beaten Baylor and Oklahoma in the same season.
“Flashes” aren’t good enough.
The Longhorns entered this week knowing their season was likely over. Bryce Petty and Robert Griffin III have suffered injuries in previous seasons, but he’s never encountered anything like this year. He ran for 106 yards on 28 carries to become the 12th freshman in school history to post at least two 100-yard rushing games. “I don’t want to make any promises about next year but we have a lot to look forward to”. He has a very real chance to crack the first, though, and we think he should.
Despite a losing season, Texas defeated two of the Big 12’s top teams in rival Oklahoma and the Bears. Mason Rudolph underwent foot surgery but could possibly return for the matchup with an SEC opponent.
