Film censors to James Bond: No kissing please, we’re Indian
Now add to this the inclusion of actor par excellence Christopher Waltz, Lea Seydoux, Monica Bellucci and wrestler turned actor Dave Bautista not forgetting the ever impressive Andrew Scott who thrilled us with his character in the “Sherlock” series.
Spectre has been directed by Sam Mendes and Daniel Craig, Neal Purvis, Robert Wade, Jez Butterworth along with Monica Bellucci played the lead roles in the film.
“It is quite ridiculous that in this day and age the censors should be cutting out or abbreviating something like a kissing scene from a film”, The Times of India newspaper said Thursday in an editorial about the Bond film.
Well, the Spectre cuts have definitely not gone down well with Twitter users in India. Cue the Sam Smith song and seductive opening credits montage. R.I.P., M. But what we’re learning today is that there was an earlier crack at a follow-up to 2008’s Quantum of Solace, written by Oscar-winning screenwriter Peter Morgan, that would have seen M die at the hands of Bond himself.
Mumbai: If the Indian censors have their way, James Bond can make liberal use of his licence to kill. Whereas “Casino Royale” and “Skyfall” featured a Bond that could fall in love or desire a mother figure, “Spectre” throws Bond a villain, whose father had housed Bond for two winters during Bond’s lonely, parentless teenage years. But of course, we need a Bond girl before we go any further. In Spectre, it’s Léa Seydoux.
November came crashing into theaters this weekend, finally pushing the lingering successes of a weak October out of the way and setting up what is likely to be one of the stronger holiday seasons at the box office.
The movie doesn’t make any efforts to redefine the franchise, something that understandably disappointed a few critics and audiences. Mendes has the pressure of 23 Bond films and so I don’t fully blame him for “Spectre’s” misfortunes. But here’s the two cents you’ve been waiting for: from former 007, our turn-of-the-millennium Bond, Pierce Brosnan. Kutcher’s movie tallied just over $16.1 million while Fassbender is now up to a bittersweet $16.6 million. “I feel it’s a mockery of the freedom of a filmmaker”. Spectre follows this structure and heightens all of its elements to never before seen places.
The Aston Martin DB10 is particularly noteworthy in that it is the first Aston Martin sports auto built exclusively for a James Bond movie. Luhrssen says, “the gross objectification of women that Bond films have often been guilty of didn’t happen here”. I want something good to say about this movie but there is just nothing good. But in the words of Roger Ebert, “there’s something to be said for a movie you like well enough at the time”.
