Final straw from maniac Leeds boss who BANS Sky Sports — Cellino Fury
Tonight’s match will get underway at 7.45pm at Elland Road.
Leeds United are attempting to block Sky Sports’ live screening of their Championship game against Derby in protest at being shown too frequently on television.
Elland Road has a capacity of 37,900 with away supporters housed on one side of the John Charles Stand (towards the South Stand).
When it looked as though Sky would not be allowed any access, the League said Leeds would be charged with a “full range of sanctions” available if they held out.
It remains to be seen if Cellino or Leeds officials bother to respond to the League’s request for answers.
Leeds are likely to face a misconduct charge if they fail to allow the broadcasters access to Elland Road.
Leeds refereed to the “entirely disproportionate number of times Sky have selected the club for live transmissions” on their website, adding: “It is not just the number of times the club has been selected, but the fact the adjoining fixtures are also then disrupted which adversely affects the players, the club’s logistical arrangements and the fans’ arrangements”.
Leeds’ decision will be of great relief to both Sky and the League, with the former having a production crew of some 40 people on site ready to work, while the League deployed former United chief executive Harvey to search for a resolution. Staff from Sky Sports were denied entry to the ground on Monday and found nothing had changed on Tuesday.
Given Sky are to show 92 live games this season, a fair allocation would be four home games per club – so the selection by Sky is clearly unfair and the league are allowing this.
A statement from the Football League is to follow shortly…
Cellino – who saw a second individual disqualification from running the club suspended by the Football League in November – has previously been critical of Sky’s scheduling, stating the club’s stature is “exploited”.
