Final: Washington State defeats Arizona football 45-42

Falk, who had 335 yards at the half, completed 47 of 62 passes without an interception, picking apart an injury-plagued Arizona defense that sacked him only twice. Falk hit Marks on a 6-yard touchdown on the opening drive, then Marks turned a short pass into a 43-yard score and 14-0 lead.

What the loss means for the Wildcats: With their third conference loss (2-3) Arizona’s chances of repeating as South Division champs are probably shot. This time, Falk and the Cougars (5-2, 3-1) needed just four plays to march 80 yards with the quarterback again hooking up with Marks for a touchdown.

Arizona took a while to get its offense in gear, finally putting together a drive that led to Jared Baker’s 1-yard touchdown run to open the second quarter. And neither the Washington State Cougars nor the Arizona Wildcats disappointed as the Cougars pulled away in the closing minutes to wrap up a 45-42 win over host Arizona. The Cougars recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff and Falk struck for his fourth touchdown pass of the half.

But the Cougars scored on their next four drives with three touchdowns and a field goal.

“Every game it seems like we’re talking about this is the game and I guess when you’re winning the pressure keeps getting higher and higher”, Marks said.

Instead of coming up with a key defensive stop, the Wildcats allowed Falk and the WSU offense to run a fateful 11 play, 5:58 scoring drive.

The Odds: Arizona is a 7.5 point favorite against Washington State. The over/under for this game is 74 total points.

Arizona runs an up-tempo spread offense that has been among the national leaders since Rich Rodriguez became coach. For the second straight week, Solomon was productive, passing for 145 yards and rushing for 24 on three carries.
