Finally! 49ers to introduce new coach Chip Kelly
There may, in fact, be a “strong possibility” of Eric Mangini remaining the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers under new head coach Chip Kelly, but that doesn’t mean Mangini will simply be handed the job.
San Francisco 49ers CEO Jed York and general manager Trent Baalke will formally introduce Chip Kelly as the team’s new head coach.
In the second season under Vrabel, the Texans saw a jump to 45 sacks – up from 38 in 2014. The Eagles and Patriots had joint training-camp practices in Kelly’s first two seasons in Philadelphia. On Friday, the 49ers posted pictures of Kelly, Baalke and York touring Levi’s Stadium. He was elected a team captain by his peers and is a player who I think everyone knew was destined to become a coach after his National Football League playing career was over. Pederson said his staff will include at least two from Kelly’s regime: special teams coach Dave Fipp and offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland. Former Eagles coordinator Bill Davis under consideration.
Vrabel, 40, has never coached nor played under Kelly, and he’s best known for his time on the Patriots from 2001-08.
Fair enough, especially if Kelly shows up with answers and has filled some holes on his coaching staff, especially at defensive coordinator. That includes tight ends coach Tony Sparano (Vikings offensive line coach), offensive line coach Chris Foerster (Dolphins offensive line coach), receivers coach Adam Henry (Giants receivers coach) and inside linebackers coach Clancy Pendergast (USC defensive coordinator). “The offense, they’ll find ways to get the big numbers, they’ll find ways to put the stats up offensively”.
