“Finding Dory” Tops “Independence Day: Resurgence” at the Box Office
Roland Emmerich’s Independence Day: Resurgence failed to ignite the biggest fireworks at the North American office, where it came in behind expectations with an estimated $41.6 million from 4,068 theaters.
The Disney animated feature was on track for 73.2 million US dollars in sales this weekend in North America, only a 45.8 percent drop from the film’s record breaking opening weekend, according to box office tracker comScore estimates. The first “Independence Day” opened with $50.2 million, or about $77 million in inflation-adjusted dollars.
Blake Lively’s new shark-infested horror flick The Shallows opened in fourth place with $16 million, a solid start against its $17 million production budget. Matthew McConaugheys Civil War drama Free State of Jones, however, disappointed with just $7.7 million for the upstart studio STX Entertainment.In a weekend full of ups and downs, the opening of Independence Day was the most closely watched debut.
The long-awaited Finding Nemo follow-up has scooped up a massive $73.2 million (£53.5 million) for an impressive 10-day tally of $286.6 (£209.4 million).

Central Intelligence, the comedy starring The Rock and Kevin Hart, finished the weekend third earning almost $18.4 million.
Also making its debut in US theaters this weekend is “The Shallows”.
In North America, the collection is already up to an unbelievable 287 million dollars just 10 days of release, posting a strong hold of -46% this weekend and holding the no.1 spot.
