Fiorina Says Clinton Dying for Beatable Trump as Republican Pick
Bernie Sanders apologized to both Hillary Clinton and his supporters for a breach of her campaign’s voter data at the Democratic debate last night, admitting it was unacceptable conduct.
Clinton and Sanders, her closest challenger, entered Saturday night’s debate in the midst of one of their fiercest fights – about the campaign itself rather than a national or global issue.
Clinton came under fire from Republicans even before the debate was over for optimistically saying “we now finally are where we need to be” in Syria, and was criticized by Sanders for being too quick to push for regime change. He said, “If I find anybody else involved in this, they will also be fired”. The DNC shut off the Sanders’ campaign access to the database, including its own data, and some Clinton staff spoke of theft and the breaking of laws. Whether it’s the existence of the prison camp at Guantanamo or Donald Trump’s incendiary rhetoric and exaggerations about Muslims, the answer is the same; doing or saying anything bad about Islam makes our job of defeating the terrorists that much harder. “Not only do I apologize to Secretary Clinton…”
Republicans have criticized Obama’s handling of Islamic State and have sought to link the former secretary of state to what they say is a failed strategy.
During a conference call with reporters on Friday, Clinton’s campaign manager, Robby Mook, said he could “unequivocally tell you that no member of our staff stole data from theirs”.
“No, because I think that my words represent toughness and strength”, Trump said. We got six weeks until the votes in Iowa and New Hampshire.
The “flowers and china” moment drew wide attention on social media – including criticism of the moderators for moving away from foreign and domestic policy issues to ask the question.
“We’ve seen a number of ISIS sympathizers online cite Mr. Trump’s recent comments but to my knowledge, we haven’t seen it in the official ISIS propaganda channels”, said Seamus Hughes, deputy director of the Program on Extremism at George Washington University’s Center for Cyber & Homeland Security.
“To shut off our access to our own information – to significantly hinder our campaign – was a complete overreaction and that was absolutely wrong”, he said.
For the Americans not on the road ahead of the holidays or watching NFL football, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders and Martin O’Malley provided the entertainment, engaging in a substantive if somewhat dry policy forum.
Clinton mentioned Trump a couple of times.
That’s in addition to calls from Clinton and other candidates on both sides for the technology sector to work with government to blunt ISIS’s online recruitment efforts.
“I am the lump of coal in Mrs. Clinton’s stocking”, Fiorina, said in an interview on “Fox News Sunday”. “We need a president with tremendous intelligence, smarts, cunning, strength, and stamina”. Clinton said at the end of her closing statement Saturday night. During Saturday’s debate, Clinton stated that the Republican presidential contender is “becoming ISIS’s best recruiter”, with the group attracting people by showing videos of him. O’Malley called Trump a “fascist” about five minutes into the show and Sanders dismissed his message as demagoguery aimed at the economically distressed.
