Fire, hazardous materials close Pasadena Courthouse
Crews were on the scene of a HazMat situation on Monday after a fire erupted inside of the Pasadena Courthouse.
Firefighters discovered the smoke was coming out of the courthouse, and firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, Pasadena Fire Public Information Officer Lisa Derderian said.
Hazmat teams responded to the courthouse before dawn, but the fire department announced all units were cleared shortly before 9 a.m.
Firefighters located what may be hazardous materials on a level of the courthouse, Derderian said.
A firefighter was treated when he became sick after inhaling chemicals, Derderian said.
Hundreds of people are lined up outside the courthouse awaiting word on whether it would open as usual.
Meanwhile, are around East Walnut Street was expected to be closed from Euclid Avenue to Garfield Avenue for at least a few hours, according to the Fire Department. The cause is under investigation.
