Fireball in America was Russian space junk
According to United States military officials, the bright object seen streaking across the Las Vegas night sky was actually debris that came from a recently-launched Russian rocket.
U.S. Strategic Command spokesperson Julie Ziegenhorn said an SL-4 rocket-body booster from Russian Federation was launched Monday.
YouTube user Sonny Black posted this video of the rocket over Las Vegas on December 22, 2015.
People who captured the glow on cell phone video and shared it one social media said it would be nice to be in-the-know prior to a launch.
The light spotted in and around Las Vegas was reportedly seen as far away as Bakersfield and Sacramento in California. Some people expressed distrust about the USA government’s comments on the rocket. Lindstrom, a bartender with a side business as a videographer, said his first instinct was to grab his cellphone camera.
Light pollution over major metro areas might make such a flash of light hard to see. Russian Space Rocket Debris burns up!
This was unrelated to the USA missile test November 7 that created a mysterious light across states like California, Arizona and Nevada, O’Donnell said.
