Firefighter injured at small Malibu-area brush fire
As of 6:30 a.m., it had consumed about 7 acres and was 35 percent contained.
No structures were damaged, though the fire did prompt a few evacuations throughout the Malibu hills early Thursday morning.
A female inmate firefighter was also reported by LACOFD as suffering “major injuries” and was airlifted to a nearby hospital around 8 a.m. Thursday.
The blaze was reported around 3:30 a.m. near Mulholland Drive and Pacific Coast Highway, firefighters said.

Wright says no evacuations have been ordered but plans are in place to get residents out if the flames flare up again.
Light winds are assisting helicopter crews making water drops over the fire burning in steep, inaccessible terrain north of Pacific Coast Highway.
A children’s camp near the burn area had not been evacuated, but was standing by, said Sgt. David Joyce of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Fire crews responded on the ground and by air.
It was first thought 20 acres had burned but firefighters later said only 7 acres. The California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation selects inmates to join CalFire and local crews across the state, and Los Angeles County operates its own inmate firefighter program for inmates who are non-violent offenders.
