Firefighters battle boat fire at Quincy marina
At least four boats burned in a fire at a marina south of Boston Thursday morning.
One boat may have sunk, and gasoline in the water is now being evaluated for cleanup by the Coast Guard and the Massachusetts Environmental Police, the spokesman said.
The fire broke out on Thursday morning. “This boat went up very fast”, said Deputy Fire Chief Gary Smyth.
“We watched the flames flying out of our boat”, said Barbara Painter, owner of “Let it Be”.
“The heat was so intense, I was like, ‘holy (expletive), my boat is going to melt, ‘” said Vardaro’s husband, Bob Callahan.
A fire boat from Boston helped to battle the blaze while Quincy firefighters aimed their hoses from shore.
The firefighters reopened the dock after they knocked down the fire.
Marine units from the Quincy police department towed other nearby boats away from the fire.
The exact cause remains under investigation.
