Firefighters douse hotspots at site of ‘fire tornado’ blaze
Flames could be seen twisting into the air like a tornado.
High winds caused problems for fire crews battling a blaze in South Platte, Missouri, at one point forming into a “fire tornado”.
These will likely continue until the area some rainfall or colder temperatures, they added, because the region is now experiencing unusually high temperatures and low humidity.
J.R. Bridges with Oktaha Volunteer Fire Department said the fire started in McIntosh County.
There have been no reports of injuries.
The fire took over 75 firefighters about eight hours to subdue the flames, according to NBC affiliate KHSB.
He said that’s when the fire spread over to Muskogee County and into Oktaha’s fire district.
Missouri was not the only state with intense fires yesterday.
Fire Chief Richard Carrizzo says about 1,300 acres have burned so far, and two outbuildings have been destroyed. There are 24 states Friday under Wind Warnings and Advisories from California to NY.
