Firefighters draining pond to get at cockpit following crash in Houlton
Police in Houlton, Maine, say they have found the wreckage of plane that crashed in the area of the Houlton global Airport and there is no word on the occupant.
State police spokesman Steve McCausland says there is no information about the pilot of the plane.
The plane was found on Thursday morning. It was due to arrive at the Houlton global Airport 1 a.m.
“Troopers on the ground tell me it appears the pilot clipped trees, the plane flipped over and landed in this manmade pond in back of someone’s home”, McCausland says. The recovery of the pilot’s body has not been located as of yet.
According to the aircraft manufacturer’s website, the Piper PA34 has a range of 828 nautical miles with 45 minutes of reserve fuel. Customs was there to greet the plane.
Because the flight path followed the border with New Brunswick, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police also were involved in the search, McKenna said.
