Firefighters gaining control of Sand fire in Santa Clarita Valley
In Southern California, a fire in the wilderness between the northern edge of Los Angeles and Santa Clarita grew to 59 square miles, however containment grew to 25 percent.
The Brush fire has burned 37,473 acres in the Santa Clarita area, and surrounding canyons. “There is a need to take immediate action”. “It will provide assistance for those who had their homes and property damaged”.
The Sand Fire, which has now burned 38,346 acres, is now about 40 percent contained as of Wednesday morning, according to an official incident report.
“It is folly to predict where this fire will go”, said California state parks spokesman Dennis Weber.
“Recent drone activity has occurred over the fire in the Bear Divide Area”. Fire crews have made some gains against a massive wild…
The Wyoming fire in a remote region burned almost 11 square miles (28 square kilometers) and forced the evacuations of 900 people but no homes had burned by Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.
Evacuations were still in effect for Little Tujunga Canyon Road from the Wildlife Way Station to Sand Canyon Road and Placerita Canyon Road. He was confirmed to be one refusing orders to evacuate the area.
Some neighborhoods in Santa Clarita, population about 200,000, remained off limits Tuesday because of the fire.
The county is seeking ways to lease or acquire more aerial firefighting equipment.
Helicopters made water drops through the night. But the aircraft won’t be available for another month, when fire season ends in Canada.
“Evidently, he did not want to be evacuated”, Winter said.
The county has bumped up a lease for a helitanker, which should be available Monday, he said.
“The fire came from that side, like a big wave, all at one time”, said Kim, who shot video before escaping. The L.A. County coroner identified Bresnick Tuesday.
Officials in Las Vegas and Reno, Nevada, are blaming poor air quality and smoky skies on a pair of California wildfires.
Winter said a female friend Bresnick was visiting was forcibly removed by firefighters as flames closed in on them, but Bresnick insisted on staying put. The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection is not releasing the exact location of the homes to prevent looting.
“There is an autopsy pending”, he said.
Most residents previously evacuated have been allowed to return.
A smoke advisory remains in place as far away as the San Gabriel Valley.
The smoke will likely move toward the north and northeast through the night and could settle in the valley overnight, according to AQMD.
