Firefighters Urge Public to be Safe with Fireworks Ahead of July 4th
Firework safety tips provided by the National Council on Fireworks Safety, Inc.
TNT launched a new smart phone application, which provides a way to email law enforcement or fire departments with names and pictures of people setting off illegal fireworks.
The Bend Fire Department is reminding residents of the hazards fireworks pose as the Fourth of July approaches. They include sparkling fountains, poppers and ground spinners.
Secontine encourages people to enjoy professional fireworks displays by attending events run by their municipalities.
Deputy Fire Marshal Amy Linder said previous year, they had a ban on all fireworks in the south hills of Eugene. Never give fireworks to children. “Fireworks compound the threat to already dry forests”, states Keep Oregon Green President Kristin Babbs.
If the city is not on the list, fireworks set off in “personal use” are illegal.
“All Oregonians share the responsibility to use only legal fireworks and use them carefully”, adds Ruiz-Temple.
Possession of any type of fireworks, including “safe and sane” fireworks, is against the law in any unincorporated area of San Bernardino County.
Do not hold a fireworks item in your hand.
· Light fireworks one at a time, then immediately back away to a safe distance.
· Carry fireworks in a pocket or shoot them off in metal or glass containers.
Use fireworks outdoors in a clear area; away from buildings and vehicles.
Fireworks can only be purchased by someone who is 18 years of age or older.
“The best thing to shoot a firework with is either a punk or a grill lighter”.
When using fireworks always have a connected hose, bucket of water, or other water source nearby.
Do not experiment with homemade fireworks. Drop used fireworks into a bucket of water.
