Fires at 5 St. Louis-area churches in a week suspicious
Nine African-Americans died while attending Bible study at Emanuel AME in that attack.
No word yet on possible suspects after two more early morning fires over the weekend at churches in the St. Louis area.
Investigators from the St. Louis Regional Bomb and Arson Unit and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are assisting the St. Louis Fire Department and local police departments in an effort determine if all five fires are related, Jenkerson said.
“My job is to love (them)”, said Pastor David Triggs of New Life Missionary Baptist Church.
The first fire, on October 8, caused similar damage to Bethel Nondenominational Church in Jennings, about a half-mile from Saturday’s fire.
Then this past weekend, fires were set at the front doors of New Life Missionary Baptist Church at 4569 Plover and Ebenezer Lutheran Church at 1011 Theobald. The doors of St. Augustine Church were burned on October. 14.
Authorities say that the fires are arson.
The St. Louis Fire Department is investigating another church fire in North St. Louis, the fifth this month. “This is not spontaneous combustion, so they are not occurring on their own”, he continued.
Thankfully, no one has been injured in the blazes.
