First Democratic Debate To Take Place Tuesday Night
Trevor Noah wants each of the presidential candidates to get a fair shake.
The debate, on CNN, begins at 6 p.m. and runs for two hours.
The next one: The next debate for the Democratic candidates is set for Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, on Saturday, November 14.
Media reports last week had aides to Biden consulting with the Democratic National Committee about upcoming deadlines for qualifying for state primary ballots. Democrats only have five candidates, three of whom might not have even qualified for the preliminary rounds in the GOP debates. Jim Webb and Lincoln Chafee will be on opposite sides of the stage next to O’Malley and Sanders.
Host Lauren Livingston wrote on the Sanders invite page that “all parties, supporters and skeptics” are welcome to attend the event.
Yet, although he was elected governor twice by wide-margins, O’Malley is registering 4th in his home-state’s presidential polls at a paltry 4%.
“I think right now most people in the Democratic Party think they only have two choices”, O’Malley acknowledged during an interview, per the Post.
Despite the growing hype about Sanders, Clinton, 67, is still the party’s front-runner, holding a commanding lead in recently released Nevada polls.
“For emphasis, Noah then adopted the voice of a promo announcer: “‘Clinton! However, she’s not a few amateur who’s going to freeze up either.
“This year’s presidential debates are basically an open mic night”, Colbert said of the Vice President’s possible, not-that-probably appearance tonight.
Webb was also staunchly opposed to the Iraq War and is a proponent of prison reform. It won’t be easy. She reversed course to announce her opposition to the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal that she had praised when she was secretary of state, and she rejected the Keystone XL pipeline that she had said in 2010 she was inclined to approve. To move the needle, these lowly One Percenters need to score points off of Clinton.
How can Clinton survive all of these attacks?
Biden’s pending decision “has got to bother her, because nearly every survey I have seen shows that Biden takes more from her than from Sanders”, Sabato said.
Clinton, who still faces ambivalence about her candidacy from much of the union rank-and-file, won praise from labor leaders for her opposition to the TPP.
Expect Clinton’s opponents to be obsessed with her tonight. According those close to the vice president, he is still trying to decide if he will persue the Democratic nomination for president. She urged the workers to “say “No” to Donald Trump”. Now it’s the Democrats’ turn. In an October 2007 debate, Clinton’s campaign was damaged by her vague answers on providing drivers licenses for undocumented immigrants. With her strong standing in the Democratic primaries, not losing tonight will be sufficient. And in that sense, not losing would be a big win for Team Hillary.
