First flu death of season reported in California
Officials didn’t provide any details regarding the victim except saying that he/she was aged between 18 and 65. However, the viruses mingles at their crowning levels from December through April. Doctors are warning that, despite flu season having a slower start this year, it is necessary that the public now take a proactive attitude towards combating the illness by getting themselves vaccinated. A few people should not receive this form of the vaccine, including people with an allergy to the vaccine or eggs, pregnant women, those with weakened immune systems and children with asthma.
The government’s national immunisation program will now include a vaccine that covers four flu strains instead of three, including two influenza B strains that wreaked havoc in the 2015 flu season.
Flu is able to stem severe diseases in all age demography.
Dr. Karen Smith said in a statement that being a California public health officer he comes into stress when he hears about cases where flu claims life of a person.
Only the deaths of people under the age of 65 are reported and therefore a lot of the deaths even go unrecognized. So officials say the actual number of deaths caused by influenza was much greater.
Common symptoms of the flu include fever or feeling feverish, a cough or sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, chills, fatigue and body aches. Children also may have nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.
Remind your employees about good hygiene practices, especially important during flu season: coughing or sneezing or into the inside of your elbow, washing hands frequently, and using hand sanitizer if handwashing is not an option.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth.
A person’s suitability for vaccination, or vaccination with a particular vaccine, can be affected by the person’s age, health (current and past) and any relevant allergies.
The Minnesota Department of Health listed the geographic spread of the flu as “sporadic” the week ending October 24, with eight hospitalizations in the state so far.
