First Look at Jason Pierre-Paul’s Hand Following Fireworks Accident

They brought back a familiar face in Steve Spagnuolo to be the defensive coordinator, replacing Perry Fewell.

This could be a make or break season for the Giants from a franchise era standpoint.

No one has actually seen JPP’s hand since the surgery, he hasn’t told the Giants any details regarding his injury, and no one has confirmed how many fingers he still has. Training camp will give a lot of insight to where the Giants are at, as there are plenty of questions to be answered once the Giants open camp July 29th.

“We want to get back to winning games and making the playoffs, giving ourselves opportunities to win championships”, Manning said before the opening practice of camp late last week, “and do that this year”. The pair took swings at each other and Pugh ended up without a helmet. 

The 26-year-old was photographed on Friday at his home in South Florida with his arm in a sling and the right hand where he lost a finger completely wrapped into a soft bandaged club.

No one knows for sure when that reunion is, but for the time being the defense will have to gel without Pierre-Paul, and execute head coach Tom Coughlin’s mantra of “next man up”.

DE Robert Ayers said he sent Pierre-Paul text messages of encouragement.

At the moment, it seems Pierre-Paul won’t sign a tender until he can pass a physical. Who will have the first chance? Pierre-Paul’s injury was quite serious and it will be some time before we have anything approaching a timetable on his return. He wasn’t just a “name” or a “star”, he was the only real star of the Giants’ defense. I think the best place for him would be here, the best support system is here around his teammates, the trainers, his coaches, the medical staff.

Following the horrid regular-season starts the past two years, the last thing the organization needs heading into the 2015 schedule is more uncertainty than necessary regarding Pierre-Paul. He has the intangibles and skill set to become a strong pass rusher, but he is not there yet. “I hope and pray for the best for him, that’s what I can say about that”. Pierre-Paul intends to play, it’s just not quite clear when will that be.
