First Night of Chanuka Feature Menorah Lighting, Choir & Rock Band at Chabad

The traditional celebration includes treats of rugelach and latkes, and the children enjoy gifts of Chanukah gelt (money), chocolate “coins”, in addition to modern holiday gifts, and playing Dreidel.

Chabad of Los Alamitos had its 9th annual menorah lighting Thursday night at the Seal Beach Pier. It’s open to all and free. “It was a victory for religious freedom and the right for minorities to worship God as they saw fit”.

The Jewish community will celebrate the first night of Chanukah Sunday evening with a Menorah lighting celebration in downtown Wilmington. A Nine Foot Menorah will be placed on the Campus Green in front of the Student Center. Such is the goal of a community-wide celebration to be held at Dadeland Mall this Hanukkah and the many other Chanukah events taking place, including at the Barnes & Nobles West Kendall & The Home Depot in West Kendall. Also in attendance will be The Honorable Sam Olens, State of Georgia Attorney General. Following a series of terror attacks in November, Paris police had discouraged local Chabad emissaries from conducting public Chanukah celebrations, and called for major lighting ceremonies to be canceled.

Before the start of the game, a menorah will be lighted at center court of the Vivint Arena to commemorate events surrounding the Jewish people’s defeat of Syrian-Greek oppressors who had overrun ancient Israel.
