First picture of Jude Law as The Young Pope
The project also co-stars Diane Keaton, and it is being helmed by 2014 Best Foreign Film Oscar victor Paolo Sorrentino, and Deadline described it thusly…
The first look image shows Jude Law in character as Pope Pius XIII in Rome.
The eight-episode drama marks an global collaboration between Sky, HBO and Canal+ and will feature Law as a young (and dare we say dashing?) American Pope Lenny Belardo, Pope Pius XIII.
Jude’s character is said to be “complex and conflicted”, and is set to face turbulent times that will test his faith and more.
Jude has been seen filming at all hours of the day around Italy in the past two-months, dressed in a variety of costumes, whilst playing Pope Pious XIII in the Sky, HBO and Canal+ high-end drama.
In addition to Jude Law, the cast of the miniseries also includes Academy Award victor Diane Keaton, who plays Sister Mary; Scott Shepherd as Cardinal Dussolier; Cécile de France as Sofia, who is in charge of marketing in the Vatican City; Javier Cámara as Cardinal Gutierrez, the Master of Ceremonies of the Vatican City; Ludivine Sagnier as Esther, the wife of a Swiss guard; and Toni Bertorelli as Cardinal Caltanissetta.
The Young Pope will show viewers the controversial beginning of the fictional pope’s ascension to the highest position within the Catholic faith.
The inner struggle between the huge responsibility of the Head of the Catholic Church and the miseries of the simple man that fate (or the Holy Spirit) chose as Pontiff.
Speaking about the series he described it as a story of “faith” and how people “handle and manipulate power”. For the love of God.
