First Trailer Arrives For Key & Peele’s Movie Keanu
But the duo raised our spirits by promising that their next project, a feature film entitled Keanu, would fill the void left by Key & Peele. Just watch and enjoy (be warned, it’s a red-band trailer so it contains NSFW language).
The cat is shown cheering up Peele’s character when it comes into his life while he’s distraught over a breakup. But then his feline savior is stolen and he, along with his best friend (Key), must go on a mission to save the kitten from some gangsters. When his beloved kitten is catnapped, he teams up with his equally straight-laced suburbanite cousin Clarence (Keegan-Michael Key) to infiltrate a street gang and rescue the little fuzzykins.
Peele’s character is overheard saying: “We just feed ’em some bullshit about New Jack City and we get Keanu”.
The trailer is full of signature Key & Peele absurdity, suggesting that the film will feel like a 90-minute iteration of one of their sketches (and/or a goofy parody of John Wick – okay, so maybe the movie isn’t totally original).
Director Peter Atencio, who previously worked on the Key & Peele television program, took to Twitter soon after the trailer had uploaded to show how infatuated he still is with the cat.
Key and Peele star, along with Method Man, Gabrielle Union, Will Forte, Darrell Britt-Gibson, and Nia Long.
