First trailer for new Star Wars film released
The new trailer isn’t the only video to come out of Star Wars Celebration that has fans talking.
In some ways, it’s just like the trailer for The Force Awakens. One of the most popular theories about Rey’s parentage is that she’s the daughter of Luke Skywalker. But now that we know who all these characters are, we can start to infer a little bit of meaning from the images we’re shown.
“The Last Jedi” picks off where “The Force Awakens” left off, with Rey (Ridley) meeting Luke on a remote island, filmed off the coast of Ireland. A single leaked picture of Mark Hamill in Jedi robes traveled around the Internet with the swiftness of any meme. We again see Rey with a lightsaber, and then Kylo Ren with one.
Either way, it looks as though big things are coming. But this time, we get a better look at what’s happening. Three years later, the company announced plans for new 14-acre Star Wars “lands” at both its Orlando and Anaheim, California, parks, capitalizing on the lucrative brand much as Universal Studios did at its Orlando parks with the Harry Potter phenomenon. “It is time for the Jedi to end”, a line which will surely have fans speculating for the next several months before the release of the film. Or maybe he’s creating a new one. Not a chance. The trailer offers a brief glimpse of his grandfather Darth Vader’s crushed mask and the ominous breathing. Anything more at this point would be too much.
The First Order will make some aggressive moves right in the beginning of “Last Jedi”, Johnson said.
Instead, they got a lengthy speech from Luke Skywalker, which was delivered over John Williams’ classic score. Basically, Lucasfilm released an epic tease in the form of this trailer and all Star Wars fans everywhere are pulling on their theory caps to figure out what in the galaxy is going on here.
Daisy Ridley said on-stage: “What I can say is that in The Last Jedi, we go deeper in Rey’s story”, she said.
