First Trailer of Tom Hanks as Captain ‘Sully’ Released
Six years ago pilot Chesley Sullenberger gained national attention when he safely landed U.S. Airways Flight 1549 into New York’s Hudson River after a gaggle of geese disabled the engine.
From Oscar-winning director Clint Eastwood (“American Sniper”, “Million Dollar Baby”) comes Warner Bros.
The clip shows Hanks as the famed captain, making an emergency landing into the Hudson River with 155 people aboard. Consequently, Eastwood’s film also trains its focus on the messy aftermath of the incident. Now, after two books, a Tourneau watch launch, and countless public speaking engagements, the retired pilot is headed to the big screen where he is played by Tom Hanks.
The last film he directed, “American Sniper”, Bradley Cooper earned an Oscar nomination for playing real-life U.S. Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, whose compelling story drew almost $550 million at the worldwide box office. That incredible true story gave Clint Eastwood a subject for his latest film Sully (due September 9th), the trailer for which has now surfaced online. An investigation into his piloting abilities was opened, to determine whether he really needed to make such a dramatic water landing, or if he could have made it back to the airport.
Which leads him to wonder: “What if I did get this wrong?” He wonders if he did endanger the lives of the people onboard the flight after all.
Sully lands in theaters starting September 9th in the USA and around the world.
