First Trump ads for radio hit familiar themes
A Democratic Hispanic political action committee that is protesting Donald Trump’s “Saturday Night Live” appearance Thursday defended a video featuring young Latino children slamming the Republican presidential candidate in profane tirades for his views on illegal immigrants.
Trump has drawn considerable criticism from Latinos for his inflammatory rhetoric about immigrants, including referring to most Mexican immigrants as rapists and drug dealers.
Today, an activist group known as DeportRacism.com offered $5,000 to anyone would interrupt The Donald as he hosts Saturday Night Live this weekend. “To do so is insensitive and will contribute to the wave of bigotry he is creating”. Asked about the opposition to his upcoming appearance while promoting his new book in New York on Tuesday, Trump said he was pleased to hear demonstrations were already underway.
The Trump camp and NBC did not respond to multiple attempts for comment.
The promo clip, originally around 2 minutes and 20 seconds, and released online Wednesday, featured a quick clip of the GOP candidate saying, “Ben Carson is a complete and total loser”. “I think it’s just awful”, Trump said Friday morning on Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria”. It’s a no-win situation for the writers: Laugh with Trump, and he’ll be praised for “getting it”; laugh at Trump and, well, that’s not what you’re going to see on Saturday. “SNL, by inviting Trump to host, fans those flames of hatred”, Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-Calif.) wrote in an op-ed piece for Time.
Until now, Trump has relied on free media coverage, and that strategy seems to have worked – he has been at or near the top of the polls for most of his campaign thus far. “I don’t know what they were thinking when they sent this invitation to him”. “Nor will he return to the long-running reality show “The Celebrity Apprentice” as host, a role Trump already said he would give up because of his presidential bid”. The ad promises, “If the people of Iowa vote for me, you’ll never be disappointed”.
On Wednesday evening, demonstrators holding “Dump Trump” signs chanted “Hey hey, ho ho, Donald Trump has got to go”. If more than one person disrupts Trump, the bounty will be split evenly, the group said.
