Fisher catches monster four-metre tiger shark
Geoff Brooks posted two images of the six metre apex predator to Facebook on Tuesday, claiming that the tiger shark was “caught off 7 Mile Beach” near Lennox Head, on the northern NSW coast, at some stage over the weekend, The Daily Mail reports.
As Matthew tells it, he was fighting a hammerhead when the tiger shark rose to the surface and swallowed the shark.
The monstrous fish, which could weigh more than 60 stone, is thought to have been hauled in off Tweed Head, near Australia’s Gold Coast.
Not only is the Tiger shark the very definition of the phrase “you’re gonna need a bigger boat”, but it was allegedly caught with a hammerhead shark inside it.
“I was the one that took that photo and I was the one that caught that fish”, he claimed.
Matthew, whose second name is unknown, said he wasn’t sure of the exact shark species.
“There’s nothing different to years ago except now when things like this get on social media they just take off”, he said.
The fisherman yanked out its jaw to keep its teeth as a souvenir.
Huw Morgan a spokesman for CSRIO, told Yahoo7: “We have seen the photos and all we can confirm is that it was a dead Tiger Shark, we don’t know the where abouts of it now”.
So far, the helicopter crew has identified no less than seven great white sharks which regularly patrol the shoreline.
Australian conservation group Positive Change for Marine Life are now appealing for information about how and where the animal was caught.
At a community meeting earlier this week, residents were warned that tourists are avoiding the area for fear of shark attacks.

One picture shows a front view of the shark and the other shows a full side view.
