Fisher unaware of Keenum concussion until after game
‘Keenum was never going to tap out voluntarily. Because of a penalty, there’s actually no play there, a detail that will be important later. He was immediately seen holding the sides of his head and then failing to stand as a teammate attempted to pull him up. The officiating department at the same time, they are enforcing the measurement.
“Our head trainer did go on the field, and he got out there, and he spoke to Case”. Fisher did speak but was not asked about the irresponsible decision not to remove Keenum.
The quarterback didn’t leave the field.
Ravens fan, Bruce McKeldin said, “We’re just looking forward to the draft pick next year”.
“He just wasn’t playing”, Bowles said during a conference call.
“His responsibility is to call down and notify the officiating department if he sees anything”, Fisher said. “I mean, we’ve impressed that upon our players to be honest with us and let them know how they feel in the morning as they start their recovery process”. Keenum was inneficient throughout the day, completing just 3 of 10 passes in the first half and ending the day with a completion percentage well under 50 percent.
It is unfortunate that the game itself isn’t talked about and rather the handling of a specific play. After running one more play, the Ravens were set up for the game winning field goal. The game was briefly held up because of a penalty on the Ravens, but Keenum went back to the huddle and stayed in the game after the conversation.
So what could’ve been done differently? The National Football League added independent certified athletic trainers in 2011 with the intent to have them serve as spotters from the press box. Starting this season, those spotters have been given the ability to buzz the officials for medical timeouts if a player appears to need medical help.
Flacco’s injury occurred late in the fourth quarter of Baltimore’s 16-13 win over the St. Louis Rams.
Sep 20, 2015; Landover, MD, U.S.; St. Louis Rams tackle Greg Robinson (73) lines up against the Washington Redskins at FedEx Field. Blake was cleared and returned to action later in the game.
That’s what the NFL’s impartial injury spotter is in the booth for.
In the case of what happened in Baltimore, Fisher said, “You can not under these circumstances place blame on anybody”.
Fisher explained, “Any time a player comes in on Monday morning with the slightest headache, we’re going to put him in the protocol from a precautionary standpoint”.
Still under center for the next snap, Keenum threw an incomplete pass, and then got sacked and fumbled on the following play, which allowed the Ravens to kick a game-winning field goal.
While Schaub, a 34-year-old 12-year National Football League veteran, certainly isn’t a fresh-faced, scattershot rookie, much will be expected of him as he leads a Ravens team bereft of its most established stars into the season’s final six games. “But, it’s a new system and we’ve got to continue to work to get it better”.
“Fortunately, Case felt really good this morning”, Fisher said. The bad news is that we had an issue, an issue with everybody involved. It wasn’t until after the game was over that Case Keenum’s concussion was diagnosed.
